This is the fourth post in a series of blog posts highlight the past few years of creating strong, impactful images for clientele through my Corporate business and the editorial work I create for East of the City magazine. In this series I will introduce you to some amazing human beings who run their own business(es) and shape the business landscape in the Durham Region.
Andrea Nicholson’s establishment Butchies is bringing a southern flare to downtown Whitby and the West Lynde neighbourhood. Named after her father, Andrea says,” I am the way I am because my dad was such a dreamer. And I named my dream after him.”
The menu is full of amazing choices – Country Fried Steak, Pulled Chicken and daily smoke options such as1/2 Roasted Lemon Garlic Chicken (Dinner Only) or St. Louis Side Ribs (1/2 or Full). Paired with sides such as mac’n’ cheese, hush puppies, devilled eggs and more. Finish your meal with home baked pie or a Kwartha Dairy Ice Cream cone.

In this series I will introduce you to some amazing human beings who run their own business(es) and shape the business landscape in the Durham Region.
Surrounded by iconic colour and creativity, the duo of Marc and Dee Walsh, are the owners of 4 Cats Arts Studio in Whitby where people of all ages can get their art on. After photographing Marc and Dee in 2015 for EAST of the City magazine we have become friends and they have become clients, as has our family of their business.
They both exude great energy and their art education, passion for this community and every day families is evident in their business and their inclusion in many off site charitable functions. At 4 Cats Art Studio you can study the masters of art, spin some clay on a wheel or learn the techniques of splatter or pour painting (to name but a few of the activities). Kids, adults and entire families come for the extremely popular paint splatter parties.
In an education system that continues to undervalue the importance of arts education it is breath of fresh air to see the work this studio does to bring art to the community in tandem, rather than in competition with other local art schools and institutions. After all the more art there is the better our world is for it.

This is the first in a series of blog posts highlight the past few years of creating strong, impactful images for clientele through my Corporate business and the editorial work I create for East of the City magazine. In this series I will introduce you to some amazing human beings who run their own business(es) and shape the business landscape in the Durham Region.
Our first feature is a wonderful human being – Susan-jane Frank – local realtor and also a trained chef. She was instrumental in helping us acquire our forever home and over the years Susan-jane has become a friend to not just myself but to our entire family, our boys included. You may also have met her lovely daughter who models and helps in the studio from time to time.
As an award winning and acclaimed realtor Susan-jane Frank has been working in the Durham Region for over twenty years. As an agent for the Frank Royal Le Page brokerage all the details you need to work with her can be found in her website http://www.movingtodurhamregion.com/.
Susan-jane also loves to prepare food and in pursuit of this she has added Chef to her skill set graduating from the Durham College culinary school. Her catering company is Divine Cuisine – a customized service to create food for your event or business needs – https://www.facebook.com/divinecuisinewhitby/ We have had Susan-jane cater two events for us with spectacular results on both occasions.
In addition, Susan-jane is also working at M&R Cakes and Cafe in downtown Whitby where you can dine on a menu of some of her delights as chef (the cafe is owned by her colleague Marjorie (Jorie) Steenson). I know – I am already exhausted thinking of all the energy she puts into everything she does and fairly certain I am not listing all the gigs she has for food. I will leave some of the getting to know Susan-jane to your own investigative research.
